MORRISVILLE - Nathan Click, candidate for Congress, released the following statement applauding North Carolina’s state Supreme Court for delaying the 2022 primary elections from March until May and ordering a lower court to hear and rule on gerrymandering lawsuits by January 11th, just over a month from now:

“North Carolina voters deserve fair maps which do not rig elections with predetermined outcomes. The latest maps of the Congressional and state legislative districts are painfully obvious examples of an attempt to rig elections for the next decade, cement a Republican majority in Raleigh and Washington, and ignore the will of North Carolina voters and the American people. Thankfully, North Carolina has a state Supreme Court which recognizes the seriousness of the case and the urgency needed to resolve it.

“The latest gerrymandered maps are part of a broader nationwide attack on democracy. Along with Donald Trump’s continued lies and bogus claims of stolen elections, new voting restrictions in states imposed without evidence of voter fraud, and the January 6th insurrection at the U.S Capitol, gerrymandering is one more plank in this sustained assault to silence the voices of the American people. Those who value the future prospects for a truly multi-racial, multi-ethnic democracy in America must recognize what is at stake and engage in our democracy to protect it. We are at a point where we cannot take democracy for granted.

“Members of Congress must also act swiftly in a narrowing window to get to the full truth on the January 6th insurrection, which tried to violently overthrow the results of the 2020 presidential election. I urge the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol to move efficiently through the end of next year to uncover all of the facts on everyone involved with the insurrection for the sake of our democracy, history, and the American people. If I am elected to Congress in 2022, defending democracy for our children’s generation will be of utmost importance.”
